Sapience I-X projects the human story into a foreboding dystopia in which the air is unbreathable and no other animal species remain. Thus, humans have nothing against which to measure their own humanity and must find new ways to define themselves collectively and individually. Performers wear military gas masks, ornately decorated with feathers, fur and jewels, transformed from a wartime survival tool into externalized expressions of personality and animality.
Chapters of Sapience I-X “Human Story” were performed at the Chelsea Art Museum, Judson Memorial Church, CPR Brooklyn, the Highline, Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition, and the 92nd St Y.
